smoky desire

Henry Louis Gabbedeaux
changes the left front tire
on his aging Pontiac,
in the park on an overcast
Sunday morning, while
his wife, Gloria, reads
steamy romance novels,
one after the other,
as their two children play
on the jetty,
trying to catch gulls;
she is not the looker
that she once was at the
county fair, but he is no
longer the star running back
either; he is looking at her
with love, and she is
looking at him with
smoky desire.
