Pen and Paper

when inspiration strikes
(every Muse is fickle;
I imagine they have all
been married multiple times)
I am always at the ready,
having had so many great ideas
slip away into the ether;
so, in my left pocket,
I always carry a reliable pen,
and in my right pocket,
I always carry some paper;
I keep them separated
because I don't want them
getting together
when I'm not looking,
like teenagers
behind the bleachers.
