ten tiny seashells

they're just ten tiny seashells,
remnants of some babies,
the biggest, just over an inch long;
four mollusks,
three oysters,
two clams,
and one conch;
and they wouldn't mean much
to most anyone;
but they meant something to her,
since she had saved them
in a little plastic bag
tucked in a drawer
in her old desk;
and so, though I know nothing
of their history
and they remain a mystery,
I keep them safe,
remembering her,
long gone, but still lingering
among ten tiny seashells.
