March 26, 1982

twenty-seven years ago today,
and even though
so much went astray,
well, still three good reasons
to stand up and give
some rousing applause:

that you accepted
that drink
from my bartender pal,
and that
for a good long run,
we did a few things
really right,
and that
on balance,
by most standards,
we had a lot of fun,
even though neither of us
turned out to be
the one.
