milk & bananas

the blonde with the great rack
comes out of the Stop & Shop
pushing a four-foot cart
filled with cases of milk and bananas;
she looks at me, and smiles,
as she walks over to her Ram 250 pickup;
she pulls it curbside,
and is joined by her blonde friend,
also possessed of fine endowment,
and they begin to load the truckbed,
lifting --
stretching --
pulling --
pushing --
and it is a ballet
made for a Thursday morning;
and I realize
how young I am,
and I decide that
there are much better uses
for that truckbed,
than simply hauling groceries,
and I smile
with my eyes.
