it still stands straight
and
soundless,
hanging
from
a lower branch
of the emerald arborvitae: and
I'm sure that he thought
he had come upon
an enormously clever idea:
flatten a tablespoon,
and bend four dinner forks,
hang them
from a tunafish can
with fishing line, and, voila:
windchime!
if only it had ever made one sound
in forty years.
